For beginning or intermediate backyard astronomy. See the moon in all it's glory, Jupiter, Saturn, and various star clusters and nebulae. The Orion StarBlast II Reflector has all the right features:
- Diameter of Mirror - 114mm (4.5 inches) for good brightness. This is considered a medium-size telescope for astronomy (and astronomy ONLY due to the upside-down image and the equatorial tripod)
- Focal length - 450mm, f.4 provides a wide field of view. The tube length is relatively compact!
- Includes 2 eyepieces for magnification of 18x and 45x (higher power is doable with a 2x Barlow doubling lens)
- Sturdy equatorial tripod included moves the telescope on the same path that celestial objects move across the sky as the earth rotate. The tripod is aluminum and adjustable height.
- An AstroTrack motor drive is included which motorizes the movement of the telescope to offset the earth's rotation. A 9-volt battery is required (not included). The scope can also be moved manually with the included manual cables.
- A red-dot finderscope is included to help you locate the object in the sky. The finderscope has lower magnification thereby showing a wider section of the sky. This helps you target your object.
- A Moon Map is included.
- Weight: 20.7 pounds when fully assembled.
